Schmit of The Eagles and Poco in Concert at the Capitol Theatre

Best known for his work as bass player and singer for Poco and The Eagles, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Timothy B. Schmit comes to the Capitol Theatre in downtown Clearwater on Thursday, May 24 at 7:30 p.m. performing the biggest hits from the bands he helped launch, as well as selections of his solo material. Tickets go on sale this Saturday, April 14 at noon.

Breaking into the California scene as a teenager, Schmit had his first taste of success in the surf rock group New Breed. The band had one big radio hit, the Animals-inspired Green Eyed Woman. In 1970, Schmit joined Poco, replacing founding member Randy Meisner on bass and vocals. He wrote and sang lead on Keep On Tryin', Poco's biggest hit single to that point. During his tenure in Poco, Schmit also contributed vocals to Firefall’s Just Remember I Love You and backing vocals and bass on several Steely Dan albums. Schmit joined the Eagles after the Hotel California tour, once again replacing Randy Meisner on bass and vocals. On the 1979 album The Long Run, Schmit co-wrote and sang lead on the song I Can't Tell You Why.

Following the breakup of The Eagles, Schmit’s beautiful high tenor and knack for harmonies allowed him to continue his career as a successful studio session player and solo performer. His voice can be heard on many hits, including Bob Seger's Fire Lake, Boz Scaggs' Look What You've Done To Me and Crosby, Stills and Nash's Southern Cross. In 1994 Schmit rejoined The Eagles for their Hell Freezes Over reunion and has continued to tour with the band since their reformation. Schmit's latest album, Expando, was released in October of 2009.

Reserved tickets priced at $45 and $37.50 will be available at the Ruth Eckerd Hall Ticket Office located at 1111 McMullen Booth Rd. in Clearwater, by calling 727.791.7400 or by logging onto www.atthecap.com. The Ruth Eckerd Hall Ticket Office is open Monday through Saturday, from noon to 6 pm and one hour prior to showtime.
Al Stewart’s gifts as a singer and songwriter have matured and ripened over the course of his musical career, stretching from the early ’60s to the present. Al’s first album, Bedsitter Images, was released in England in 1967 and was followed by 1969’s Love Chronicles, which featured Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page and Richard Thompson on lead guitars. After several more albums written in autobiographical mode, Stewart shifted his lyrical gaze outward, into history, literature and current events, an approach debuted on 1973’s Past, Present & Future. The follow-up, Modern Times, cracked the US Top 40 album charts in 1975 and drew Al and his backing band to the States for a full length tour.

With groundwork laid and touring dues paid, Stewart’s next album exploded in America:Year of the Cat, released in 1976, spawned two Top 20 hits Year of the Cat and On the Border, and itself became a million-selling record. After Stewart relocated to California his next album, 1978’s Time Passages, repeated the success of its predecessor, selling another million copies and spinning off the Top 10 title track and Top 30 single, Song on the Radio. Stewart has continued to tour and record over the past decades, most recently releasing Uncorcked a live album in 2009 with award-winning folk singer-songwriter Dave Nachmanoff.
